Description:
- Made by J. Hicks, London, around 1945. This Strut psychrometer, so called because it was attached to a strut of the aircraft was used to measure air temperature and humidity during aircraft soundings. It has two spirit thermometers and the base has a metal plate and grill to allow the passage of air over the bulbs. The thermometers are either side of a metal plate the scale in Fahrenheit is marked on it as is the makers name (J. Hicks, London). The thermometers are mounted on a wooden frame, painted white. It has, written in black, "Strut Psychrometer" followed by the Meteorological Office MO logo, Mark III and the serial number 792/45. The reverse of the mount has a green baize covering and a thick leather strap.
