Abstract:
  • In Part One, satellite radiation measurements in the 6.7 micron and 7.3 micron bands are compared to atmospheric moisture and temperature soundings. Concepts developed from a computer model of radiation transfer are related to satellite observations and radiosonde data. In Part Two, patterns and features observed on 6.7 micron satellite imagery are related to atmospheric wind and temperature fields. Applications of water vapor imagery to weather analysis and forecasting are suggested.
