Description:
- Dr J.T.R. Robinson of Armagh Observatory, Ireland was the principal developer of the anemometer in 1850. This particular instrument dates from around 1870 and is constructed on a 3:1 ratio (ratio of the wind speed to the rotation speed of the cup centres, which was later proved to be erroneous. The dial indicates the run of the wind, the outer wheel revolving once in five miles, while the inner pointer revolves once in half a mile. This instrument appears to be in a brass base with a brass column upon which the arms for the cups are attached. The cups are of an unknown metal. The dial in the base is white with the scale in black and a brass pointer. The glass front displays the internal workings and the dial. It is heavy for its size.
