Description:
- Made by the Meteorological office to measure precipitation. This Mark 5 has a Stainless steel bucket mounted on a spindle, which tips when it reaches a certain weight, depositing the precipitation into another compartment. Each time the bucket tips, a magnet activates a reed switch, the Mark 5 has two switches, if one fails the other can provide continuity until a replacement is fitted. The instrument is cast from an aluminium alloy which surrounds the bucket and switch mechanism, giving greater protection.
