Description:
  • This instrument was made by Hilger and Watts Ltd in 1944. The instrument consists of a telescope which mounted permits rotation both in elevation and azimuth, fitted with a right-angles prism so that the observer continues to look horizontally into the eyepiece no matter what the elevation of the balloon. The instrument is black with the serial number of MO 16/14/44/50 MK4 /65. It is in its original box, wooden with dove tailed joints. Two metal brackets either side with a leather carrying strap attached. The front is fastened with two brackets. There is a key hole, but no key. The box lid has MO 1614/50/65 MK4 on it. Inside it has compartments for the secure storage of lenses.
