Description:
  • This instrument was made by Casella, based in London, and used to measure the humidity of the atmosphere. This is a recording instrument which uses a strand of human hair to work the instrument. It works on the principal the human hair increases in length with increasing relative humidity. The changes in hair length are not linear, being proportionally less at high relative humidity than at low, but the recorded changes are generally made linear by the design of the mechanism. The instrument is white with the drum, upon which the chart is positioned, is enclosed in a metal case with glass panels on three sides. The top lifts to give access so that the chart can be changed.
