Description:
  • Made in the UK by the company Negretti and Zambra in 1943. Sir Gabriel Stokes modified the original Campbell sunshine recorder of 1853 and in 1879 produced the first Campbell-Stokes sunshine recorder. Further refined in 1884 by adding a spherical lens suspended in a yoke, this meant that the whole assembly, including the card holder could then be adjusted to suit almost any latitude. This instrument has a heavy black base with the maker's name, Negretti and Zambra, London and the serial number MO317/43 engraved in white, which is worn and fading. The glass sphere is suspended using brass crews as is the card holder, there is no card in the card holder.
